The way of checking in and out varies by mode of transport.
Train, tram or metro:
The train has two options. The tram/metro has only option 1.
- Checking in at the entry gates
At many stations there are access gates. You pass through these gates by holding the QR code in front of the transparent scanning area, which can be recognized by an image of the QR code in combination with the OV-chipkaart in the scanning area. When the QR code is scanned, a beep is heard and the gates open. - Check-in without entry gates
At some stations there are no access gates. Normally the traveler checks in at the check-in pole. Checking in at the pole is not necessary with the Turnn application. The Turnn traveler can take place in the train. When checked by the conductor, the QR code is scanned.
Bus:
The bus has three options:
- Checking in at the scanner.
The bus driver has a scanner to scan the QR code from the application. Hold the QR code in front of the scanner and the bus driver confirms the check in. Is the scanner not working properly? Then show the bus driver the QR code with the travel information. - Checking in, but no scanner present
The bus driver has been notified of the QR code tickets by the carrier/employer. Show the QR code with travel information to the bus driver. The bus driver reports, if correct, that the traveler can take a seat on the bus. - Check-in without a QR code
Some tickets do not have a QR code. The user can show the ticket to the bus driver.
Does the scanner not recognize the QR-code, or does the carrier not recognize the ticket? Then read this article.
